The Meycauayan Jewelry Industry Association, Inc (MJIA) was established in 1985 as a non-stock non-profit organization engaged in the jewelry business, registered under Security Exchange Commission (SEC) with Registration No. 136608 last November 20, 1986.

MJIA, being a strong, cohesive, and unified organization with active, capable, satisfied membership and as the leader of the jewelry industry in the Philippines, MJIA is envisioned to provide full range of the world class training in jewelry making; to be the pioneer of latest jewelry technology in the Philippines; to be one of the leading producers of fine jewelry in Asian

producing products inspired by Philippine culture and tradition and making use of indigenous materials; advocate for an environment conductive to the development of Philippine Fine Jewelry; and be an active and constant partner of the government in building a strong industrialized national economy with a strong commitment to principles and practices of

Universally accepted human values and sustainable development.

 

MJIA, a strong and unified association is committed: a) to contribute in the upliftment of the economic condition of the Filipino people through generation of employment in the manpower-intensive jewelry industry; b) to serve as the “voice” of the jewelry sector in matters of “global” issues, assist the government in the development and implementation of the

Philippine National Standards on Jewelry, develop skills standards, trade test and certifications, and serve as the center of jewelry technology in the Philippines; and c) to provide services to its member-companies in the area of skills upgrading, technology transfer, management and entrepreneurial skills development agencies.

 

To be able to accomplish its mission and achieve its visions, MJIA aims to:

a) Unify and bond strongly all producers and traders involved in jewelry business, and

encourage them to work collectively towards developing the sector into a major export

industry, working closely with government and private sectors into a major export

industry, and to put in place all structures and reforms needed to accelerate the

growth of the Philippine jewelry industry;

b) Upgrade technology and production facilities competitive with the world market;

c) Imbibe the values and virtues of high level entrepreneurship and of good labor relation

for both management and workers in order to create harmony and commitment in

pursuing development goals of the jewelry industry;

d) Push reforms in the government like taxes and duties and to allow the industry to

move freely and prudently until it becomes competitive in the world market; and

e) Manage a common service facility for the jewelry sector which will be known as the

Philippine Jewelry Center (PJC) which will have the following facilities: Jewelry

Training School, Gold Refining, Assaying and Hall Marking, Common Service facility

for Production, Showroom, Business Center especially for Jewellers, Lapidary, and

Research and Development.

 

MJIA has 37 projects divided into four issues such as Production and Technology, Marketing, Financing, and Policy Advocacy in relation to the country, industry, and its members.

One of the major projects of MJIA is the annual conduct of the Philippine Fine Jewelry Design Competition. It  was started in year 2000 and is in its 13th year now.

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Philippine Fine Jewelry Design Competition (PFJDC) WHI is one of the major

projects of Meycauayan Jewelry Industry Association, Inc., (MJIA) and the longest running design competition of its kind conducted every year.  It is sponsored by the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (Philexport), the Provincial Government of Bulacan and the Municipality of Meycauayan.

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

1. To continue the conduct of Philippine Fine Jewelry Design Competition.

2. To promote the excellence in design and craftsmanship of Philippine jewelry.

3. To promote utilization of indigenous materials as component or in combination

with other materials for fine jewelry.

4. To tap and seek the cooperation of the jewelry manufacturers in developing the

advancement of the design profession that will benefit the industry.

5. To create consumer awareness and interest in purchasing locally made jewelry.

6. To create existing and innovative quality jewelry that will suit the taste of domestic

and international market.

7. To provide an opportunity for recognizing the student’s talent and creativeness in

the development of new design concepts for the fine jewelry industry.

 

CATEGORIES

1. PROVINCIAL DESIGN IMAGE OF BULACAN – jewelry designs of a special piece or set of jewelry that will speak of, or identify Bulacan’s historical, cultural, spiritual or religious

norms and traditions, economic and social heritage.

2. FORMAL – jewelry designs for evening wear for the affluent woman.

3. CHIC – jewelry designs that are simple and functional but elegant jewelry for today’s working woman.

4. WEDDING – jewelry design of a pair of  wedding rings to be worn by the bride and bridegroom on their wedding day.

5. PLAIN GOLD/SILVER – jewelry designs made of gold/silver only (earring, ring, chocker,

brooch, pin, bracelet, cufflink, etc.).

 

WHO CAN JOIN?

The design competition is open to all aspiring jewelers, designers (both amateur and

professionals) and students from schools offering design and design-related courses. Participants who have won three times in the previous MJIA design competitions can

no longer join.

 

COMPETITION RULES

1. Entry forms  can be access in the web, facebook, etc.

2. Entry forms will also be available at the following address: Philippine Jewelry Center, Pandayan, Meycauayan, 3020 Bulacan or at Booth  226 The Jewellery at Greenhills Shopping Arcade Greenhills San Juan MM

3. Entry forms will be distributed during the conduct of competition orientation in

identified schools

4. All entries must be endorsed by the School if a student 

5. Each entry must be accompanied by a certification that indicates the originality of the work.

 

PRESENTATION TECHNIQUES of ENTRIES

1. Each entry working drawing shall be presented on a specified size of illustration

board: 10” x 15”. All info must be in black ink.

2. Design Layout should be organized horizontally. The working drawings shall be in

scaled drawing requirements which is 1:1, with pertinent dimensions in metrics,

showing the top, front and side views.

3. Submit the design brief: (rationale/design descriptions, materials used), printed on 8x11

sized bond paper, with the fully accomplished entry forms, and the certificate of originality of design concepts. Please see sample on how to paste the entry form and rationale at the back of your drawing.

4. Submit the total entry requirements without acetate cover. You may place it in an

environmental-friendly bag/eco bag to protect the total items.

5. No marks or information pertaining to the identity of the Entrant should appear on the

illustration board.

 

WHERE TO SUBMIT YOUR ENTRIES:

1.Entries can be submitted at Philippine Jewelry Center, Pandayan, Meycauayan City , 3020 Bulacan  or at Booth  226 The Jewellery at Greenhills Shopping Arcade Greenhills San Juan MM

2. Entries from Davao, Cebu, and Bacolod must be sent through LBC, Manila:

2. Entries from different Schools can be submitted to School Coordinator, to be appointed by the School Head.

JUDGING CRITERIA:

Construction = 30%

Innovative Utilization of Materials = 20%

Design Application = 30%

Commercial Appeal = 20%

Total = 100%

 

PRELIMINARY JUDGING

1. There are five (5) Categories. Each Contestant may submit only ONE ENTRY for each

Category.

2. If the organizer thinks that the entry submitted falls in another category, the Technical

Screening Committee has the right to transfer the entry to the category where it should rightfully belong.

3. In the preliminary judging, the Judges will rate the entries and rank them from highest

to lowest to select the twenty-five (25) finalists.

4. MJIA will identify the manufacturers who are capable of executing the prototypes of

the 25 design finalists.

 

 

 

 

PROTOTYPING

1. Entry presentation must be in gold or silver only. There is no restriction on the use of

different types of stones, it can be genuine or manmade. But, the use of the endangered species is not allowed (e.g. Coral, Ivory, Tortoise Shells).

2. MJIA can sponsor the prototyping of all the 25 finalists or  Designers/Finalists can choose their own manufacturer. The Designers/Finalists is required to work/communicate with the assigned manufacturer during the prototyping stage

3. During the prototyping stage and in the process of production, if some problems may

occur, minimal revisions may be done in consultation with designers. The prototyping

procedures must comply to the high standards of craftsmanship, use of quality materials, and accurate representation of the original design of the entry.

4. Non-cooperation of the finalist with the Prototyping Sponsor will result to disqualification from future Philippine Fine Jewelry Design Competitions.

 

FINAL JUDGING

  1. The Final Prototypes of the 25 Finalists will be presented to the Board of Judges.
  2. In case award winning entry is disqualified, prize will be forfeited and there will be no acceleration of award and will result also to disqualification in future PFJDC competition.

2. There will be five grand winners: one winner each from the five (5) Categories.

3. The decision of the Board of Judges is final.

 

AWARDS/PRIZES

• P10, 000.00 - Cash Prizes plus Trophy, for each Winners in the five (5) Categories.

• P10, 000.00 - Cash Prizes, plus Trophy, for each five (5) Winning Jewelry Companies who sponsored in the five (5) Categories.

• Certificates of Recognition will be awarded to the twenty (20) Finalists/Designers,

and the Jewelry Companies who developed the prototypes.

• Certificate of Appreciation will be given to the schools of the winners.

• The winning jewelry pieces will be exhibited during the awarding ceremonies.

 

DESIGN COMPETITION MANAGEMENT:

1. All jewelry prototypes of this competition will remain the property of the sponsoring

manufacturers. Manufacturing rights remain with the manufacturer who executed the

prototypes.

2. Marketing transactions may be entertained after the awarding ceremonies, on a

case-to-case basis between the interested party and the manufacturer.

3. The MJIA and DEG will notify the winners and the schools through mail/online. A

photograph of the winning pieces and written reports about the awards will be

released to the general public through press releases, domestically and globally.

4. The Jewelry Collection will be exhibited in trade fairs, important events, and press

conferences, participated in by MJIA.

5. The Designers will be recognized in every competition-related activities to be

participated in by MJIA and DEG.

6.  The ownership of the design will remain with the Designer. The Designer is entitled to

a royalty fee for every total sales made by the company. DEG will serve as the Marketing Coordinator of the Designers.

7. All other entries maybe claimed from MJIA.
